December Meeting

As a group we decided to skip our regular meeting due to the holidays. Alternatively, some members attended the "Book Paper Scissors Artists’ Book Fair" at the Free Library (http://www.freelibrary.org/) in Philadelphia on December 5th. The event is hosted annually by Philadelphia Center for the Book (http://www.philadelphiacenterforthebook.org/). One of the favorite discoveries was an origami wallet created by artist Elizabeth Fuller from Philadelphia. Another favorite, was book artist Donna Globus. We are hoping to have her come for an all day workshop which would be open to guild members as well as current art students. Check back in the future for more information.

November Meeting

Hello Paper Guild members! In an effort to make our site more current, we are posting information from our last few meetings.

In November, we had a visiting artist named Joanne Cassaro, who graciously taught us all how to make Paste Paper. In case you missed the demonstration, "paste paper" is the application of colored paste to paper, followed by designs you create in the paste while it is still wet.The designs can be created using tools, fingers, organic objects such as leaves, or pretty much anything that has the ability to make a mark. It's messy, but a fun and addictive process. We highly recommend exploring it!

Here is a link to a website that Joanne recommended that gives detailed instructions about making paste paper: http://inward-bound.us/pastepaper.html.

About Joanne
http://www.joannecassarodesign.com/
Creativity. Health. Love. Laughter. Patience. These are words I live by. I have been a professional graphic designer for television, print, web, corporate identity and merchandising over 25 years. Daily yoga brings quiet strength and focus to my busy world of deadlines. My love for the craft of glass lampwork, jewelry, ceramics, fi ber and paper fi lls the free time I carve out for balance. Combining the visual along with the tangible while communicating an idea, a feeling or a memory in a natural style is what my art is all about. I am happiest working in the moment, immersed in the processes whether in front of my Mac, in my studios or in the field sharing experiences with other interested artists and participating in a variety of workshops.
